the raincoast crisps best-written story contest

The winner of our recent best written Raincoast Crisps story is Rod Bagg of San Jose, CA. Rod was the winner of a year’s worth of Raincoast Crisps.

Here is the story he submitted:

It was a dark and stormy night… Well, OK, it was more like a gorgeous fall day.

A crisp bite to the morning air swept across my face as the sun sparkled thought the rustling sycamore on the front porch. It was the perfect start to a season of slow cooked braised dishes filling the house with their intoxicating aromas mingling with the earthy smell of an oak wood fire in the hearth.

An early morning trip to the market was met with familiar faces bantering with the fish monger or picking out the plumpest free range chicken and well-marbled meat. A few choice cuts of beef short ribs and some mirepoix from the fresh produce selection and I was set.

A quick stop at the cheese counter before heading home to start the braised short ribs yielded a welcomed surprise. A display of intriguing crisps was presented for sampling with a soft French brie and fig compote. The crackers were delicious.

The drive home took a circuitous route, stopping at several friends handing our packages of Crisp-mas-cheer.

As the evening fire crackled in front of us, a late night snack of Rosemary Raisin Pecan crisps topped with a succulent bit of warm short rib and a tiny dollop of creamed horseradish was enough to start us planning our picnic lunch in wine country for the next day.
